Setting up VPN on your device

The University of Bath's Virtual Private Network (VPN) lets you connect your personal device to IT services at the University.

You can connect to the VPN on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, iPadOS and Android.

When to use VPN

VPN creates a secure link from your device to services at the University as if you were on the University network.

There are many reasons to use VPN, including:

  • connecting to your work PC via Remote Desktop.
  • for VPN-required services, such as Agresso, Typecase, and Business Objects.
  • accessing UniApps and/or UniDesk.

Setting up VPN

University-owned devices

To use the University of Bath VPN on a University-owned device, you should find it is already available in your Network Connections menu. You should not try and install it yourself.

Personal devices

  1. You'll need Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) setup on your University of Bath Microsoft 365 account to configure your device for the VPN. If you haven't yet set up MFA, you can view the step-by-step guidance on our Layer up your account security webpage.

  2. Visit connect.bath.ac.uk and choose the option 'eduroam + VPN'. Your device will be automatically configured by the setup tool.

If your device does not support automatic setup, the page also includes manual setup instructions.
