Description: | Aims: This unit will be delivered in conjunction with a specialist from IBM, and will focus on business analytics software, its applications in practice, and its implications in the wider and international context. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit, students will be able to: * Use contemporary business analytics software to discover unidentified problems, devise solution approaches, and implement them. * Assess the past and current business analytics implementations and project the future needs, solutions, and trends for business analytics solutions. Skills: Intellectual skills: * Use of business analytics methods in finance, procurement, marketing, sales, human resources, and supply chain management (T, F, A) Practical skills: * Knowledge of the state-of-the-art software for business analytics (T, F, A) Transferable skills: * Enhance perspective of the implications of Big Data (F) * Use of the current business analytics software (T, F, A) Content: Topics covered include the applications of business analytics software in many functional areas, including but not limited to finance, procurement, marketing, sales, human resources, and supply chain management. In addition, recent trends in the business analytics field including HADOOP, open source programs (R), social media analytics, alternative data collections techniques (mobile signals, face recognition, recorded calls sentiment analysis etc.) are covered. |
