Description: Aims:
To develop an awareness of, enthusiasm and skills for conserving sustainable coast, and planning, design and construction of maritime structures on coasts; and the understanding of water supply, water quality and water treatment.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit, the student should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
* Fundamental aspects affecting coastal environments and civil engineering works on coasts.
* Design of a range of coastal structures, including coastal sea defences, harbours, marinas and breakwaters.
* Main elements involved in water engineering including water supply, water quality and water treatment.

Skills:
Intellectual skills
* To understand taught material and design issues and constraints.
* To apply the concepts and principles of fluid mechanics and wave & tidal theory to the solution of engineering problems.
* To synthesise material from Hydraulics 1 and 2 to understand the provision of water
