Description: | Aims: The major theme running through the unit is the origin, assessment, and development of business opportunities. We will explore the activities involved in actively searching for opportunity ideas, the creative processes that bring about such ideas, and the ways in which such fledgling ideas are continuously assessed and developed. Learning Outcomes: Upon completing the unit, students will be able to: * Understand the market and industry context of entrepreneurial opportunities; * Identify and formulate new business ideas; * Analyse the feasibility of business ideas; * Effectively present business ideas to others; * Anticipate and address the challenges of pursuing business opportunities. Skills: Intellectual/Professional Skills * critical awareness of current issues and trends; * ability to apply your knowledge and experience to identify interesting entrepreneurial opportunities * ability to create an environment where creativity can be used to identify new opportunities. * identify the resources and competences necessary to develop a previously identified opportunity * understanding of theoretical concepts and frameworks that enable the student to meaningfully link theory and practice, and the ability to critically appraise both theory and practice. Content: The unit is designed to help students to better understand the process of identifying, assessing and developing entrepreneurial opportunities. The course covers the following key themes: * The market and industry context of entrepreneurial opportunities * Creativity and idea generation * Feasibility analysis * Opportunity development templates. |
