Description: | Aims: This unit enables students to develop an understanding of an area of interest through a period of independent study. This will be based around a body of not less than 10 academic articles agreed with two members of faculty who will convene and moderate the resulting assessment. Students will be expected to identify key themes within the reading list, supported by reading beyond this reading list, and to produce a meaningful analysis and/or synthesis of this body of work. Learning Outcomes: * Construct a coherent synthesis of the information in the selected body of work * Understand and critique the key pieces of work within the chosen area of study * Integrate multidisciplinary perspectives on the same problem * Identify new topics of research within the topic area that appear promising * Work independently, without close supervision or guidance * Work to agreed specifications and deadlines. Skills: See LO Section. Content: The content depends on the programme and topic of interest of the student, to be agreed on with the supervisor. However, the student will need to find a supervisor that is willing to guide the student to achieve a deeper understanding of the topic of choice. The topic may be aimed at increasing the employability of the student, or preparing the student for a PhD. |
