Our English language requirements

If you apply to study at the University, you need to meet the minimum English language requirements for your course through one of our accepted qualifications or English language tests. To make it easier for you to check the qualification level you need, we group our courses in categories A, B, and C.

Use this page to check which qualifications you need for Category A courses.

English tests accepted for Category A

If you use one of the following tests to meet our English language requirement, you must have achieved your qualification no more than 24 months before starting your course, or we will not be able to accept it.

Please note that you only need to take one of the tests listed in the next table if you don't have one of our other accepted English Language qualifications for Category A.

Other accepted English qualifications for Category A

We accept the following qualifications if you have achieved them no more than 40 months before the start of your course. At our discretion, we may accept qualifications achieved outside this period.

We only accept some qualifications if you are a national of an English-speaking country. See a list of who we can consider nationals of English-speaking countries.

Who we consider nationals of English-speaking countries

You are considered a national of an English-speaking country if you are:

If you have a qualification in English that is not listed here, email the Undergraduate Admissions team using admissions@bath.ac.uk

If you need a Student visa to study in the UK, you will need to meet the UK Home Office requirements.

As a higher education institution (HEI), we can assess your knowledge of English directly. You will not need to take a separate English test if you meet our standard English language requirements for an undergraduate degree.

Pre-sessional English courses

If you need to improve your English language skills before starting your studies, you may be able to take a pre-sessional course to reach the required level.
