#Playing for the Venturers#
The Venturers Cricket Club provides cricket for staff and
postgraduates who are connected with the University of Bath in any
official capacity. New players of any ability are always welcome: we
are always looking for new players who can spare weekends and evenings
for a game over the summer months.
If you enjoy playing cricket, and are thinking about joining the venturers, you might find the following helpful:
-
We hope to play fun, enjoyable cricket, and as far as possible, to
get everyone involved during a game. Although our matches are
competitive, many current members of the club did not play regular
cricket, or had not played for a long time, before joining the
club. If you are not sure about the standard, join us for a nets
session, or a 20-over match, and see if you enjoy it.
-
The club aims to be a friendly mix of people from across the
University, and our teams will usually MSc students, PhD students
and staff members. Everyone is welcome.
- We run nets sessions during the season for club members who want to
practice, however we realise that not everyone can make it. If you
think that you would like to play, but can’t make the nets sessions
- that’s not a problem! Simply let the captain know when you can
play a match.
-
You don’t need any of your own kit - the club has all the kit that
you will need to play, so just bring yourself!
-
Most of our games are against local villages, and other teams based
around Bath and Somerset. The matches can be a great way to see some
of the prettier villages around Bath. We can always arrange lifts if
you don’t have your own transport.
-
We play 20-over matches on weekday evenings during the Summer, and
40-over matches, usually on Sunday. In the Winter we play 6-a-side
cricket in an indoor league.
- We charge a small match-fee to cover the costs of pitch-hire and
equipment. For 20-over games this is £5, and for Sunday games £7,
but this usually includes tea.
If you would like to join the club, send an
e-mail to join the club mailing list,
and sign up for a game, or come to the nets. If you are still
thinking, why not have a read of some of our match
reports, or read about our win in the Bristol T20 tournament in 2011.
