Below are the player profiles created by the Team Manager, Team Captain and various other people in the club in advance of the first game of the 2005 season.
Adam D
Caught at cover early on, bowls leg-spin or medium-pace depending on mood.
American Luke
Not a classical style but a highly destructive bat, showing signs of learning how to call
and play a defensive stroke. Liable to kill bowlers and batting
equipment alike if he can just stay at the crease long enough.....
James Dutton
Team Manager. Bats and bowls left-handed. Models himself on Phil Edmonds but it all
comes out like Tuffers on acid (on a good day!).
Mark Hornsey
Injured at present but can bat and the only one in the club who always knows his average.
Rob Branston
Treasurer. Bowls a bit, bats a bit. Has been known to run like a whippet and leap like a
salmon when fielding, but doesn't do it often.
Paul Snow
Good left arm bowler. Will win games again this year, kids and knee
permitting.
Mike W
Can't remember what he does.
Gregory Sankaran
Can remember all too well. Club secretary. Bowls and bats with self-coached techniques
one of which is highly effective (if it pitches). Judges a catch nicely anywhere
in the field.
Duncan
Captain this year so will set the fielding standard, although liable to shout at people
if the game is tight. Bowls with speed
and can bat if the old bat still has any wood left on it.
Ian
Good bat, but lousy runner and vulnerable when facing female bowlers!
James C
Steady bat and slowest bowler in the team who throws like a girl but can be like a
tiger in the field.
Betty
Wicket keeper with a style all his own. Has the honour of being the only ever Venturer to get
two golden ducks in the same one innings game. Promises new "whites" this year
but the same hat. Middle order bat with a favourite late cut so late it is
usually still being played on the way back to the pavilion.
Kevin
Good bat till he gets bored by rubbish bowling. Great bowler
John H
Specialist deep square leg fielder
Johan L.
Hasn't played since 1996 so should fit into the team perfectly.
