It was a hot day all afternoon but the forecasts had predicted thunder storms later on in the evening and thunder storms is what we got, which eventually caused the match to be abandoned. The Venturers won the toss and decided to bat.
Roger, who had made an impressive 65 in the last match, opened with Arvind. The first over we all thought that we where going to make a very good total as Arvind hit two beautiful boundaries off the first 3 balls. However as the clouds started to draw in the Bath Spa Students started to pick up some wickets very quickly. Arvind got caught in the second over, Rob T got bowled in the third over and Andy followed suit three balls later. In came Kevin, and together with Roger, started to steady the ship. A partnership of 39 followed with Roger and Kevin scoring steadily with eight boundaries between them. Some sparks of lightening could be seen in the distance and the rumble of thunder could be heard and the likelihood of the game being finished was becoming more and more unlikely. There was still time for another fall of quick wickets. A mix up between Kevin and Roger caused Roger to be run out for 32 and Kevin got caught behind the next ball for 19. Dino only managed to see out a few balls before being caught behind and the runs started to dry up. Rob B and Mike made a good stand for the seventh wicket and the total after 20 overs was 106 for 7.
It was very dark when the Bath Spa Students came out to bat and it started to rain. Tom started the bowling for the Venturers and was able to make the ball turn quite a bit. In his first over he got a wicket as the batsman tried a big slog but only managed to cause the ball to loop up and safely in the hands of Kevin at square leg. Only six overs could be bowled before the rain really started to come down and the match had to be abandoned.
