Kingswood vs Venturers, Wednesday 16th May

This match was ended as a contest in Gregory’s first over, which included two sixes and the dropping of both batsmen. They made about another eighty between them, quickly, and we had had it, although even if we had caughht our catches it probably wouldn’t have helped much. We had collected one wicket, via a candidate for Catch of the Season from Simon (indeed, at the end of the match it was still the only catch of the season) off Jay. Not Jay’s best ball, but he bowled quite well for the most part. Rob and Gregory were erratic, though, and Kingswood’s score was kept in check only by several optional retirements and the fact that they had a couple of non-cricketers who had turned out for them. In reply, in the usual uncomfortable Kingswood weather, we made a reasonable score but their policy was for everybody to bowl two overs, so again the odds were stacked in our favour. Nobody took it very seriously.
