Venturers Vs Amdocs, Wednesday June 11th

Amdocs 124-9, Venturers 111-7

It started well enough: Chris H and Siddanth bowled accurately and got three wickets, all bowled with proper seamers deliveries that genuinely beat the batsmen. Later on we didn’t maintain the pressure. Dave, Gregory and Nikhil each bowled one expensive over. Only one each, and they all got wickets (one of Gregory’s through an excellent catch by Dave), but Amdocs bat quite deep and their tens and twenties added up to 124. Not a huge score, but we didn’t have all that much batting, and more than they should have got after being 74-6 at the end of the fifteenth over.

Amdocs opening bowler goes by the name of Steady and figures of 3-2-5-2 justified it. The two were Chris M and Parth, both of whom rather self-destructed, but the real problem was that nobody accelerated. Chris H and Siddanth added 33 for the fourth wicket, but at slightly below the asking rate and we failed to match Amdocs’ final burst, losing wickets (including Manoj to a dotty run-out) instead. Nikhil’s flicks were not violent enough for the purpose and Dave was left with too much to do.
