Venturers Vs Bristol Venturers, Sunday July 2ndBristol Venturers 97, Bath Venturers 98-3On Sunday 2nd July Bath Venturers played Bristol Venturers, it was good conditions for playing cricket with the sun shining but it wasn’t excessively hot. Playing on a new wicket, Bristol Venturers batted first. Bath venturers had three new players, Jay, Ali and Simon and all played very well. Bristol Venturers managed 97 before losing their final wicket, having struggled to score at much above two and a half per over. The bowling was tight and the slow outfield meant only three boundaries in the whole innings. The outstanding performance was by Ian C with six wickets off eight overs with four maidens and only conceding five runs, the other bowlers picking up a wicket each. Other notable features of the first innings included two good wicket keeping catches by Ian G, in a rare appearance with the gloves and a very good diving catch by Imran to end the innings off Ali’s bowling, after the final pair threatened to counter attack. Bristol Venturers were impressed by the tea as they hadn’t had fish fingers for a cricket tea before. Charlie and Jay opened the batting, Jay fell to a very good delivery but Charlie, who batted particularly well, carried his bat throughout the innings finishing on 47. He was ably supported by Kapil, Jack and Ian G, before hitting the winning runs. The difference between the two sides on the day was two very good spells of bowling by Ian C and Bristol Venturers had no answers to his swing and pace. |
