Prince Bladud continued to live in isolation for a long time because of his skin disease. One day when he was walking he came to a new place where he saw some hot water coming up from the ground. He thought that the hot water might help his disease, so he washed his body in it. When he got out of the water, his skin was healthy- his disease was completely cured. He went back to his people to tell them of the great benefits of the hot springs. His people believed in the power of nature to help people, and so when they heard Bladud's story, they thought the hot springs were a special, sacred site. Thus, from that day, the springs became famous amongst all of the Celtic people in the region. For hundreds of years, many Celtic people went there to improve their health and to worship the goddess of the hot springs. *
* The Celtic people called this goddess Sulis, and people thought she could help them in many ways.
