During our summer months the nation usually enjoys some nice sunny days but pays the price by suffering also from a cocktail of noxious exhaust fumes, fumes that for many people were the cause of considerable breathing discomfort and throat irritation. Although not a new problem, it "peaks" every year and each summer appears to produce conditions progressively worse than the previous year. This will no doubt continue until such time that "we", as a nation, take some action to introduce cleaner transport modes, modes that also have other positive attributes that would help to justify their construction costs.
