Your timetable - guidance and help

How to access your student timetable, what you can expect to see on it and what to do if you think something isn't right.

Your timetable and how to access it

The semester 2 timetable is now available to view.

You will be able to access your timetable via MyTimetable.

You should check MyTimetable regularly to ensure you are aware of any changes, for example, if additional detail is added to timetable entries, or if your Department adds extra events. Changes are most likely to take place within the first three weeks of the Semester.

If you can't see your timetable please read the section what to do if you can't see anything on your timetable.

What you can expect to see on your timetable

Teaching hours

Teaching takes place between 8.15am and 7.05pm (or between 8.15am and 1.05pm on Wednesday for undergraduate students).

Your timetable

If you are a continuing student you should be able to see your individual timetable as soon as you log in.

If you are a new student you won't be able to see your individual timetable until we have added all the course and unit information which is specific to you. You will, however, be able to view the general course and unit timetables until your individual timetable is available.

We have a guide to help you view your programme and unit timetables (See also the section What to do if you can't see anything on your timetable).

What you'll be able to see on your timetable

On your timetable you will see:

  • On-campus teaching
  • Live Online Interactive Learning (LOIL) sessions.

Your timetable won't show allocated time for Independent Learning.

How different types of teaching will be shown on your timetable

How on-campus teaching will be shown on the timetable

Teaching on campus takes many forms, such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical and workshop classes. Each entry in your timetable will give you some information as to what will take place. Each entry notes the unit the teaching relates to, which weeks the class runs in, who is teaching the class and where the class takes place. You might also see entries for events other than teaching. These could be departmental talks, skills sessions or information sessions that will be of use to you and may be mandatory.

If a session has been split into groups you'll see this noted in the name or it might show a group number ( -/01, -/02 etc.) at the end (e.g. "MN20082-Sem)/01"). If you have an individual timetable the entry will tell you which group you have been allocated to. If you don't yet have an individual timetable you should wait to be advised about the group you'll be in. If you haven't heard anything by the first week of teaching contact the Unit Convenor to find out which group you should be in.

You can contact your Administrative Department Timetabling Liaison (DTL) if you're not sure who to speak to.

How you'll be able to identify Live Online Interactive Learning

Live Online Interactive Learning (LOIL) sessions are also noted on the timetable. You can access links to these sessions through the relevant Moodle unit page, which may also give you more information on what to expect from your online learning for that unit.

In all cases LOIL teaching will be noted in the name of the activity, normally at the end of the name.

First years and new postgraduate students

New students will not immediately have access to their personalised timetable. These will become available when ready and students should have access by the start of teaching.

Programme timetables will be available from the Live release date.

Pharmacy timetables

Students on Pharmacy programmes will not have access to personalised timetables when the general timetable becomes available, but they should be available by the start of teaching.

Programme timetables will be available from the live release date.

If you're a student studying the MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy at the University of Plymouth you will be able to access your timetable via MyTimetable. However if you have any queries about the coding on your timetable please see the timetable codes section on the University of Plymouth webpage. If you have any further queries please contact your department admin team.

What to do about a clash on your timetable

Unfortunately, we're not able to give all students a clash-free timetable, particularly where courses have many optional units. If you find a clash on your timetable talk to your department about it in the first instance. It might be possible for you to take a different option, or there may be other ways the content could be covered.

You can contact your Administrative Department Timetabling Liaison (DTL) if you're not sure who to speak to.

What to do if you can’t attend a timetabled activity

Students should take part in all scheduled classes and other learning activities. Because scheduling at the University is complex, it's usually not possible to change the timetable for a single student. You should read your Department Handbook to find out what to do if you:

  • Unexpectedly can’t attend a scheduled activity.
  • Are ill, or likely to be ill for more than three days.
  • Have a clash with a planned religious observance, or medical appointment.
  • Need to be absent for more than three days for a planned reason such as a medical or surgical procedure, or to participate in a religious observance. You can apply for a leave of absence and your department can arrange in advance for time off study. It may be able to consider other options.

What to do if you can't see anything on your timetable

If nothing appears then your individual timetable may not be available yet, but you should be able to access it before teaching starts. This may be the case if you are:

  • a first-year undergraduate student
  • a student on a pharmacy programme
  • a postgraduate taught student
  • a student who has recently changed course or course year
  • a student who is subject to academic assessment before progressing
  • a student who was expected to go on placement but is now returning to Bath and requires course and unit changes to be made to your SAMIS record
  • a student who has optional choices outstanding
  • a student who will be taught in a group to which students haven't yet been allocated
  • not yet registered with the University (once you are fully registered you'll need to wait around 2 working days for your timetable to be available)

If you are still having problems viewing your timetable please contact Academic Registry using student-timetable@bath.ac.uk.

If you don't yet have an individual timetable, you'll be able to download your course and unit timetable by following our guide Accessing MyTimetable. You might need to contact your administrative Department Timetable Liaison (DTL) for further information about the groups you've been allocated to.

What to do if you think something is wrong or missing

If you can see units on your individual timetable that you are not expecting to take, your student record might need correcting.

Look at SAMIS to ensure that the correct units are showing on your student record. You can do this by checking the “Current Modules” section of SAMIS. If your units aren't shown correctly, or you wish to change them, you should contact your programme administrator.

You can contact your programme administrator in the following ways:

Once your student record has been corrected or updated you should wait a minimum of 24 hours for the change to show on MyTimetable.

Director of Studies (DoS) approved option

You may have already opted to take a Director of Studies (DoS) approved option, but it may not be showing on your timetable. You should add the unit you are thinking of taking to your timetable (using the add button) to ensure there are no clashes (if there are, discuss them with your DoS). If there are no clashes then contact your programme administrator and let them know the unit you wish to study.

You can contact your programme administrator in the following ways:
