The University of Bath is delighted to announce that five students have been successful in their applications to the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program for Summer 2025. These students will have the opportunity to undertake research projects in Canada, gaining valuable international experience.

Mitacs is an organisation that fosters connections between the private sector and educational institutions, both in Canada and internationally. Its goal is to encourage research and develop solutions to organisational challenges across a wide range of academic disciplines. Through its programs, Mitacs' supports collaboration between industry and academia, and provides valuable opportunities for students and researchers.

The Globalink Research Internship is a competitive program that invites applications from international undergraduate students in fifteen countries. Only the top applicants are selected to undertake twelve-week research internships at one of Mitacs' seventy partner institutions across Canada. This year, five additional students from the University of Bath have been successful in their applications, earning the opportunity to participate in fully-funded internships. These internships are also subsidised to cover much of the students' stay abroad.

Applications were open to high achieving students in their penultimate year of study. The following students have been successful in securing an internship position under the program.

  • In Newfoundland and Labrador, Chemistry student Claire Brook will be researching 'Environmental remediation via the study of the adsorption and desorption of environmentally harmful gases in porous materials' at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

  • In Nova Scotia, Social Sciences student Abbie Thomas whose research topic is _'The investigation of the kinematic and kinetics of speed kayack' _ at Dalhousie University

  • In Ontario, Engineering student Emily Sacchi will be researching 'Unsteady Flow over Obstacles' at Queen's University.

  • In Ottawa, Mechanical Engineering student Aidan Chan will be researching 'Development of Robotic Self-Replicating Machine for the Moon' at Carleton University.

  • In Quebec, Engineering student Sanal Jayakody will be researching 'Development of 4D navigation display for the cockpit' at École Polytechnique de Montréal.

Students will now begin to work with their Canadian host professors to prepare for their internship before starting their twelve-week program at the host universities across Canada.
