The Bath Beacon for Sport and Technology in Digital Society draws together research expertise from across the University to develop a world leading centre for exploring the intersection between sport, technology and society.
We will investigate how advances in technology challenge the way we think about sport and physical activity, while creating new opportunities for enhancing elite performance, preventing injuries, creating more inclusive participation, and improving function and health.
The past decade has seen a convergence of sport and technology in both research and practice. We will build on existing research strengths across the University to create a multi-disciplinary hub for identifying approaches to maximise the positive impact at the interface of sport and technology in society.
This directly aligns with the University's strategic research priorities of Health and Wellbeing, and Digital, with opportunities to examine the role of sport and technology in relation to Sustainability. The Beacon also aligns with the Sport@Bath initiative to enhance sports related research, teaching and provision at the University of Bath.
Research themes
We will organise the Sport and Technology in a Digital Society Beacon under three research strands:
- enhancing the identification, development and performance of athletes
- preventing injuries in sport and physical activity
- creating better quality engagement with sport for health across the lifespan
