Our individual actions are key to our community reaching these shared goals and creating a sustainable culture here at Bath, let’s continue the momentum and take collective action to save money and help tackle the climate crisis.
Winter Holiday Switch Off
Switch off your non-essential equipment and lights this winter break and help tackle the climate crisis and save money.
The seemingly small step of switching off can add up to make a big difference
- if we collectively switch off over the winter break the University could save a massive £198,000 and 309.9tCO₂e over the 9 day closure
- this is equivalent in carbon to flying around the world 34 times
- share your energy saving pledge and be in the chance of winning a £20 Bath Gift Voucher (one for students and one for staff)

We're saving energy and money
The University is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040 and we need everyone’s help to reach this.
Remember, energy saving is for life not just for Christmas
The power is in your hands, continue taking easy steps throughout the year to make a big energy-saving reduction in your work or study space.
- Switch off all electronics (that you safely can) and lights when you leave a room or when it’s no longer needed
- Layer up instead of turning the heating up
- Don't waste it – only use what you need, whether that's unplugging your devices when they've finished charging or setting equipment temperatures to only what you need
- Take action beyond energy saving, head over to the staff and students guides to climate action to see how you can integrate sustainable habits into your time at Bath
