Aims & Learning Objectives: Aims: To provide an understanding of the exciting new advances in Gene regulation and eukaryotic cell differentiation.
After taking this course the student should have gained an in depth knowledge of:
* modulation of gene expression at various levels.
* the molecular basis of the coordinated regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation.
* the molecular and biochemical basis of cell differentiation and lineage commitment
Content: This will be a student seminar and discussion course.
The topics include cell cycle control, cell death and differentiation, chromatin remodelling, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation in regulating gene expression, acetylation and deacetylation, post-transcriptional and translational control, cell matrix interactions.
