Aims & Learning Objectives: To familiarise the student with recent advances in cardiovascular pharmacology and current areas of research of particular importance and interest. After taking this unit, the student should demonstrate an understanding of the regulation of vascular smooth muscle and its modulation by drugs, occlusive vascular disease and targets for future drug development.
Content: Selected topics covering recent advances in cardiovascular pharmacology, such as: regulation of blood vessel tone, calcium and potassium channels, endothelium-derived vasorelaxant factors. Vascular disease, including stroke and pulmonary hypertension; Angiogenesis.
