Aims & Learning Objectives: To introduce students to a number of factors affecting the professional practice of Chemistry in the academic world outside the UK.
After studying the unit and considering their chosen country of study, students should be able to:
* Describe University policies on training, intellectual property rights and ethical issues.
* Describe the environmental aspects of the work of the University.
* Draw comparisons with the UK system of Higher Education.
Content: Students will be expected to research a range of the following factors within the University and complete a report describing: Differences in the HE sector in the chosen country and the UK, highlighting strengths and weaknesses; Industrial liaison, Safety; Environmental impact of scientific activities; Intellectual property rights; science ethics; sts of chemical research; personal and management skills.
