Aims: To extend knowledge, heighten awareness, and develop an understanding of a range of contemporary sport and exercise science research topics, issues, technologies, and associated techniques/analyses.
Learning Outcomes: On completion of this unit, students should be able to: * Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues facing sport and exercise science and scientists. * Demonstrate an understanding of various techniques and methods employed by researchers. * Critically appraise the research methods and techniques employed in contemporary sport and exercise science research. Skills: Knowledge and Understanding - taught, facilitated and assessed Intellectual Skills - facilitated and assessed Written Communication - facilitated and assessed Information Technology - facilitated Problem Solving - facilitated and assessed Working Independently - facilitated and assessed Content: Twelve seminar presentations over two semesters in selected research based topics given by departmental and visiting research staff. These presentations will address contemporary issues in sport and exercise sciences encompassing the following areas of work; Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport and Exercise Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, advances in research techniques/analyses, and technological developments. |
