This unit is not to be taken by those students taking MN20031 (Human Resource Management) on the BSc Business Administration programme.
Aims: The course aims to give a broad overview of major features of human resource management. It examines issues from the contrasting perspectives of management and employees and explores some contemporary policy issues.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, the student should be able to: * Understand the development and context of HRM in the UK; * Understand the main theoretical issues surrounding HRM; * Understand the key elements of HR practice; * Appreciate some contemporary issues in HRM practice. Skills: * Understanding of theory and practice and critical debates (taught and assessed) * Case analysis (taught and facilitated) * Group work (facilitated) Content: Perspectives on managing human resources, human resource planning, recruitment and selection, reward management, performance management, flexibility, discipline and dismissal, HR and performance. |
