Aims: The course aims to examine a series of key human resource management issues in professional service organisations.
Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit the student will be able to: * Understand the contribution of HRM to the professional service organisation; * Identify four key HR practice areas in these organisations; * Describe and analyse both content and context for these sets of HR practices; * Apply HR models to these organisations; * Critically assess the value of theoretical HRM models. Skills: Juxtaposition of theory and practice (taught) Identification good practice (taught) Case analysis (taught and facilitated). Content: Distinctive characteristics of professional service organisations and of professional knowledge workers; theoretical frameworks for analysing HRM issues in professional service organisations; approaches to the management of human resources in these organisations; detailed analysis of four key HR practice areas: resourcing; training, learning and development; performance management systems and remuneration and reward. |
