Aims: To explore the development and relevance of health promotion for pharmacists.
Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this Unit, the student will be able to critically evaluate different methods for promoting health which draw upon a conceptual understanding of the varied ways in which health can be defined and measured; to explore and critically evaluate the role of the pharmacist in delivering a wide range health promotion activities; to develop a health promotion project of relevance to pharmacy which includes an evaluation of how the success of that project could be measured. Skills: Critical appraisal skills (T/F/A) Study skills, handling information, working with others (T/F) Problem solving (T/F). Content: Public health, measuring health, factors influencing health and health promotion methods. New government initiatives on the role of the pharmacist in public health. A series of lectures will discuss a range of health promotion issues of relevance to pharmacists such as: nutrition, health & travel advice, drug misuse, cardiovascular health, sunlight protection, sexual health and mental health. |
