Aims: This unit will allow students to understand and apply the multi-dimensional approaches and requirements of the professional coach.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit students will be able to: * Distinguish between coaching & teaching pedagogy; * Identify how the professional era has changed coaching; * Critically evaluate the scientific and holistic approaches to coaching; * Appreciate the multi-dimensional nature of the professional coach; * Understand the qualification requirements of the professional coach. Skills: Intellectual: (T, F and A) Knowledge of coaching / teaching pedagogy and an appreciation of the multi-dimensional nature of professional coaching. Compare, contrast and systematically analyse the science of coaching. Professional: (F) Independent research, presentation skills, report writing. Practical: (T, F and A) Analyse, observe, research and reflect on coaching theory and practice. Key: (F and A) Planning, communication, problem solving & decision making skills. (T: Taught, F: Facilitated, A: Assessed) Content: * Differentiate between coaching & teaching pedagogy * The history and modern developments in sports coaching * The professional era and all it entails * Apply the technical, tactical and management requirements of the performer and coaching process * Further enhancement of practical coaching skills * Coaching / Performance observation and analysis |
