Aims: This Unit aims to provide an experience of building and maintaining therapeutic relationships with clients and significant others, including an understanding of how important these relationships are for client retention, satisfaction and outcomes.
Learning Outcomes: Having completed this Unit the student will be able to: * Demonstrate the use of listening, helping and communication skills to create and maintain therapeutic working relationships with clients. * Establish and maintain an attitude of collaboration and respect for clients, in order to enhance their self-efficacy and personal responsibility for change. * Communicate appropriately with family members and friends of clients, in order to engage and enhance their ability to support the client * Assess the need for support or information. Skills: * Integrating classroom learning into the clinical setting * The use of counselling skills to structure, track and pace interviews * Using supervision and support to identify development needs * Analysing own performance and responding to feedback * Working independently and as part of a team. Content: This Unit is concerned with: * Building the therapeutic alliance * Working collaboratively * Building relationships with family members and friends. |
