Aims: (to enable students to)
* identify an element of agreed current practice and carry out an action research process and cycle; * develop high quality practice through research; * foster reflective practice; * consider the need for creativity in practice; * integrate outcomes into own practice. Learning Outcomes: (students will be able to) * demonstrate effective time management; * identify and demonstrate the resources and cycle for an action research task; * improve or change elements of current practice; * analyse and identify the contributors; * form hypotheses; * collect, record and interpret data; * draw up plans and ideas for action; * analyse information to support decision making; * evaluate the results; * advise and share information with other practitioners and professionals; * demonstrate integration of outcomes into own and/or workplace practice. Skills: Analysis, identification, assessment, managing the change process, problem-solving, application of number, working with others, use of ICT, improving own learning and performance, information handling. Content: This unit will look at action research as a tool to support decision-making and problem solving in the workplace. Action research provides practitioners interested in improving their practice with a base through linking theory and practice. Students will carry out a work based research project. Students will consider analytical techniques, information handling, and communication in the context of the institution or organisation. Students will explore aspects and modes of effective communication, continuous improvement, and involving and motivating team members. |
