Requisites:
Aims: To enable the students to:
* support the literacy needs of children;
* support children's development in mathematics;
* support the development of children's scientific knowledge and understanding and skills.
Learning Outcomes:
* plan the foundation stage curriculum across communication, language and literacy, mathematics and science.
* support children's progress and development across these areas;
* plan appropriate and effective learning opportunities for young children across these areas.

Planning; monitoring; evaluating; observation; assessment; ICT; sector and subject specific knowledge; teaching strategies; record, analyse and interpret information.
Content:
This unit will focus on the mathematical, literacy and scientific learning of young children, through the foundation stage to Key Stage 1. Students will examine significant and emerging theories and principles in early mathematical, literacy and science education, national programmes and requirements. The unit will also examine the subject knowledge needs of the students and explore aspects of each subject in depth, covering scientific, mathematical and literacy knowledge and skills.
