Aims: To further develop both the theoretical understanding and the practical skills acquired in Semester 1, including advanced camera work, and a range of diverse pre- and post-production techniques.
Learning Outcomes: On completion of this unit, students will be able to demonstrate: * advanced theoretical understanding and practical skills * the ability to isolate and identify the technical components of film footage and to analyse their contribution to film narrative * a practical understanding of how to work with actors to create a narrative-based film * the ability to develop a script from an initial idea into a working screen play and shooting script * a practical knowledge of relevant technical formats and practices * enhanced editing skills using an industry standard package * a thorough critical understanding of the relationship between artistic and technological objectives * a working knowledge of digital editing techniques * a coherent appreciation of the role and practice of sound including music, mixing, and dubbing. Skills: On completion of this unit, students will be able to: * develop a short film script from initial idea to shooting script * work succesfully with actors in the production of a short narrative-based film * use advanced digital video and sound editing techniques in the production of a short narrative-based film. Content: Building on skills acquired in Techniques and Technologies I, this unit will provide advanced training in the making of digital video films encompassing all aspects of pre- and post-production, including scripting; shooting; lighting; performance; sound; editing; mixing; and dubbing. Seminars and workshops will include topics such as: * Pre-production: planning and scripting * Advanced camera skills including manual settings * Sound recording * Advanced editing * Dealing with actors. |
