Aims: To introduce and develop experimental skills required to execute and report pharmacological investigations in isolated cells, organs and the whole organism.
Learning Outcomes: After taking this unit, the student should be familiar with the techniques (cellular, tissue, systemic) used to study the pharmacology of a range of mediators and drugs, and be able to present experimental data in good scientific style. The student will demonstrate an understanding and practical ability using these techniques. Skills: Scientific and practical skills (T/F/A) Study skills, handling information, working with others (T/F) Problem solving (T/F). Content: Examination of the pharmacology of vascular and airway smooth muscle, platelets, the CNS and whole animal physiology; using organ bath, electrophysiology, aggregometry, ligand binding, immuno- and molecular techniques. |
