Requisites:
This unit is only available to students on the Foundation Degree in Funeral Services.
Aims:
* To introduce students to how attitudes to death and childhood vary across societies and over time;
* To enable students to understand the impact of the death of children on funeral practice and bereavement;
* To enable students to understand the impact of death and bereavement on children and its significance for funeral practice.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit students will have demonstrated:
* To understand the social concepts of the 'timeliness' of death;
* To understand the importance of family context;
* To understand the impact on bereavement of both sudden and expected death;
* To relate bereavement theory to funeral practice;
* To understand the ethical issues involved in reflective practice.

* Identify and access information from a range of sources;
* Relate distinct theoretical approaches to practice;
* Think creatively and analytically;
* Good writing and presentation skills;
* To reflect on how working with issues around mortality impacts on our sense of self and the way we view others;
