This unit is only available to students on the Foundation Degree in Funeral Services. Aims: * To expand on knowledge gained in Developing Professional Competence 1 and 2; * To complete the assimilation of factual knowledge with regard to the role of UK Funeral Director; * To enable students to progress to the role of funeral director within their organisation. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit students will be able to: * plan, arrange and conduct a funeral from the first call to burial or cremation without supervision; * analyse regulations governing the transportation of human remains and cremains; * explore international legislation surrounding burial at sea; * carry out the procedures, practical requirements and process of exhumation; * carry out the procedures and documentation involved in bequethal, and disposal of human remains following anatomical examination; * analyse liability for funeral expenses, client liability and the administration and settlement of estates; * compare, analyse and evaluate pre-paid funeral plans and insurance; * contribute to a military funeral; * contribute to double and multiple funerals. Skills: * To act independently and professionally to deliver a full range of services to bereaved customers including funerals, transportation (nationally and internationally), burial at sea, exhumation; * To think critically about the issues surrounding bequethal, organ and body donation; * To analyse and compare differing methods of pre-paid plans and evaluate suitability depending on client need. Content: * Death has occurred - 1. The first call; 2. Taking the deceased into the care of a funeral director 3. Care and presentation of the deceased; 4. Arranging the funeral; 5. Conducting the funeral. * International Transportation of Human Remains * Burial at Sea * Exhumation * Bequeathal * Liability and entitlement of clients and other financial considerations * Special circumstances. |
