Description: | Aims: The aims of this unit are to enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills for effective use of CAD/CAM software. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit students should be able to: * use standard features and functions of CAD/CAM systems; * create 2D and 3D drawings; * modify existing drawings and add dimensions; * use appropriate software packages to generate artefacts from CAD drawings. Skills: During this unit students should gain the following skills: Intellectual * gathering, processing and analysing technical information (A) * formulating outcomes (A) Professional * using information technology effectively (F,A) Practical * developing identification and observational skills to maintain records and contribute to reports (T,A) Key * writing reports (A). Content: This unit concentrates on: * producing 2D CAD models using standard layouts * producing 3D CAD models using a variety of viewing techniques * plotting drawings to scale * modifying CAD drawings * producing accurately dimensioned orthogonal views * importing CAD drawings into CAM or other related software * generating artefacts from CAD drawings using CAM or other appropriate software. |
