Description: | Aims: The aims of this unit are to: * explain the importance of vehicle preparation to ensure maximum performance and safety; * outline specific preparation requirements for a range of motorsport disciplines. Learning Outcomes: On completion of the unit the student should be able to: * explain the safety and technical regulations for a variety of motorsport disciplines; * implement and perform a setup procedure for a range of motorsport vehicles; * assist in the preparation of a competition vehicle for racing and rallying. Skills: During the unit students should gain the following skills in: Intellectual: * interpreting technical regulations to ensure a vehicles compliance (T,A) * evaluating recorded data previously gathered (T,A) Professional: * understanding safety requirements as laid down by the Motorsport Association and the Federation International Automobile (T,A) * working with drivers and vehicle owners to prepare competition schedules (F) Practical: * undertaking practical tasks in the preparation of competition vehicles (F) * performing a range of vehicle setup procedures (T,A) Key: * experiencing working on a variety of competition vehicles (F) Content: This unit concentrates on * technical regulations * safety requirements and regulations * pre and post event checks * competition braking systems * vehicle systems * bodywork and main vehicle structure * pit and paddock procedures * RAC Motorsport Association and FIA rulebooks |
