Description: | Aims: The course aims to give a broad overview of major features of human resource management. It examines issues from the contrasting perspectives of management and employees and explores some contemporary policy issues. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit, the student should be able to: * Understand the development and context of HRM in the UK; * Understand the main theoretical issues surrounding HRM; * Understand the practical key elements of HR; * Appreciate some contemporary issues in HRM practice. Skills: Understanding of theory and practice and critical debates (taught and assessed) Case analysis (taught and facilitated) Group work (facilitated). Content: Perspectives on managing human resources, HRM and performance, recruitment and selection, training and development, performance appraisal, work-life balance, corporate culture, international HRM, knowledge management and HRM. |
