Description: | Aims: This unit aims to provide students with: * a broad understanding of software set-up, codecs and professional creative media software; * skills to identify appropriate software and tools for particular tasks; * skills in data handling (backup, RAID, defragmentation, file systems, etc.); * basic knowledge of the development of internet technologies. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this unit the student should be able to: * identify and explain the basic features of current professional creative media software; * demonstrate basic competence in professional creative media software and use appropriate software and tools to create media for a variety of purposes; * implement file systems and devise backup strategies; * Review current industry productions and identify the technical/graphical solutions employed. Skills: Practical: implementation of systems, use of professional creative media software (F, A) Professional: creation of product to brief (A) Analytical: problem solving, identifying software and tools appropriate for purpose (T, A) Key: use of numerical techniques (F) Content: Practical experimentation with a range of text, graphical, moving image, sound, web authoring, and data management software (including, but not restricted to, Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Final Cut Studio, Celtx, 3D Studio Max, Microsoft Office, and equivalents, as well as open source alternatives) Demonstration of competence in use of software as above Understanding of client side requirements (download speed, file size, resolution, special needs, new technology) Understanding and experimentation with different files formats and solutions for content (gif, jpg, swf, class). |
