Description: | Aims: The aim of this unit is to improve students' individual management and leadership skills and competencies against objectives. The learner will assess their current skills and competencies against their organisational requirements and objectives and be able to determine their own personal development plan. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit a student will be able to: 1. Explain the importance of continual self-development in achieving organisational objectives. 2. Analyse their current management and leadership skills and competencies against their organisational requirements and objectives and identify personal development needs and opportunities to meet and address these needs. 3. Construct, implement and evaluate a personal development plan which takes into account personal targets, and the organisational resources available. The evaluation should focus on both the processes and outcomes of developing the plan.. 4. Discuss the relationship between healthy and safe working practices and the personal development plan, in the context of the promotion , implementation and recording of relevant Health and Safety practices in an organisational situation. Skills: Intellectual (taught and assessed) - organisational and human resource management theory, including self assessment, performance review, target setting, development planning, appraisal, limits of authority, legislative background. Professional (facilitated, taught and assessed) - legislative background, resource considerations, keeping appropriate organisational records , self development, reflective practice, target setting and review. Practical (facilitated and assessed) - Self assessment and appraisal, identifying skills gaps, securing resources, identifying development opportunities, creating targets and plans. Key Skills (facilitated - assessed through other units) - this unit will support students in the demonstration of competence in professional and practical skills to be used in the workplace. Content: This unit concentrates on: * Individual Management and leadership skills * Organisational objectives * Self assessment and development needs * Personal development plans * Securing organisational resources * How to manage development plans * Risk assessment and other relevant health and safety legislation. |
