![]() | Aims: The aims of this unit are to ensure that students: * Are able to demonstrate their understanding of the effects of social policies on youth workers. * Are able to critically assess the theoretical aspects of approaches to social policy. * Are able to explain the development of national and local policies towards young people. Learning Outcomes: On completion of the unit students should be able to: * Describe critically the expansion of youth work policy and its impact on practice. * Explain different theoretical approaches to the provision of youth work and social welfare. * Identify and evaluate social pressure; linking significant issues in the study of social influence, groups in society, processes, functions, roles. * Explain the structure of policies affecting disengaged young people together with specialist practice focussed on marginalised groups: including women, black youth, young people with disabilities and LGBT young people. Skills: At the end of the unit students will have gained the following skills: * Cognition, communication, information technology and basic management skills. Content: The syllabus for this unit concentrates on: * Development of youth policy * Policy development working towards inclusion * Links between social policy and youth justice * Influences upon social policy * Political bias and influences on youth policy. |
