Description: | Aims: Students who complete this unit will have considered the conceptualisation of professional learning as a lifelong endeavour. They will explore issues in the fields of work based learning and continuing professional development. They will consider the range of learning opportunities and forms of learning support. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit a student will be able to: * Examine the processes and stages involved in professional induction and professional development within a variety of work based learning contexts; * Understand and reflect on individual strengths and weaknesses, and as a result construct an appropriate development plan for continuous evaluation and professional achievement; * Identify and outline competencies in a number of professional skills that are appropriate to a specific employment sector; * Sustain learning and review learning achievement during an appropriate work placement/work-based learning experience. Skills: Written communication T/A * Problem solving skills. T/F/A * Ability to apply theory into practice. T/F/A * Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines. A Content: * To examine the idea that professional development is a key responsibility of the individual; * Continuing professional development from a variety of contexts will be explored, compared and contrasted in the light of current debates about lifelong learning and continuing professional development; * Identification and recording of achievements and personal skills through personal development planning; * Guidance on job application and interview techniques; * Employer-employee relationships; * Use of analytical tools; completion of work-based learning period(s). |
