Description: | Aims: This unit will develop learning beyond the academic curriculum and provide opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge and skills that reinforce the understanding of academic subjects and which add to the range of individual capabilities. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit a student will be able to: 1. Analyse individual strengths and weaknesses, and as a result construct an appropriate development plan for continuous evaluation and professional achievement; 2. Demonstrate competence in a range of professional skills appropriate to a specific employment sector; 3. Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of an organisation and of how personal role has developed; 4. Sustain and evaluate learning achieved during an appropriate work based learning periods. Content: * Identification, analysis and recording of achievements, competences and personal skills as required in the employment sector, using feedback from staff visits to the workplace and from employers, supervisors or mentors; * Personal development planning; * Identification and agreement of appropriate learning objectives and learning agreements; * Use of analytical tools to evaluate performance; * Reflection on personal achievements and learning achieved in each work-based learning period and at the end of the programme; * Effective completion of work-based learning period(s); * Strategies to develop understanding of an organisation's aims, objectives and key features and the student's role within it; * Key features of employer-employee relationships; * Effective use of key texts and information sources; * Institutional work based learning guidance; * Guidance on job applications, CVs and interview techniques. |
