Description: | Aims: To develop the key analytical skills to carry out evaluative judgements on individuals in the context of fitness or conditioning, i.e.; specific needs of client or athlete. To ensure that key skills are embedded and identified through their practical involvement with the client and/or athlete. To establish specific fitness needs of specific populations, i.e.; athlete, paraplegic, obesity, metabolic disorders etc. To ensure students continually reflect on their own personal learning and development in fitness and/or conditioning related career pathways. To allow students to research and develop potential fitness and conditioning related careers. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit students will be able to: * Effectively identify client or athlete specific needs. * Implement identified components of subsequent training programme * Demonstrate improvement of client or athlete through a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. * Demonstrate appropriate analytical and reflective skills to ensure the success of their personal professional development in the field of fitness and conditioning. * Analyse, reflect, evaluate and critically appraise their own and others performance. * Recognise key career pathways as a health and fitness professional or strength and conditioning coach and other related career pathways. Skills: * Communication F/A * Information Technology F * Advanced Management Skills T/F (T: Taught, F: Facilitated, A: Assessed). Content: * Factors associated with specific physiological conditions (Diabetes / CHD risk factors (HCM) Paraplegia, cerebral palsy, sporting injuries) * The relationship between factors and sports performance (levels of disability / Paralympics grading criteria) * Review of pertinent applied physiological literature * Implement components of evaluation and its impact on performance into training programme * Analytical / reflective skills associated with their implications to training programmes. * Analytical / reflective skills associated with their implications to performance. * Evaluation techniques * Evaluation of performance (own / others) * Identification of key organisations and their relationship to working in the field of fitness and conditioning, i.e.; UKSCA, BASES, NSCA, ACSM, NGB coaching qualifications, Register of Exercise Professionals, Fitness Professionals, Sports Massage Association, awarding bodies (Active IQ, CYQ, OCR, Health and Safety Executive) * Career pathways and related CPD for fitness and conditioning related careers, i.e.; Strength and conditioning coach, gym instruction, personal training, circuits instruction, sports therapy, children's fitness, exercise referral, exercise to music, wellness and lifestyle. |
