Description: | Aims: To introduce students to the skills and knowledge required to be a an effective teacher of physical education. Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to: * Interpret and draw on relevant educational philosophy * Interpret National Curriculum requirements and implication for schools * Demonstrate an ability to: a) understand the planning process b) manage a safe environment c) organise tasks, practices and transitions d) develop progressive phases of the planning process e) develop presentational skills, verbal, para-verbal and non verbal * Develop an understanding of the an Inclusive curriculum. Skills: * Comprehensive and scholarly written communication (e.g. essays) F/A * Concise, time-bound and effective written communication (e.g. briefings / exams) A * Effective oral communication (e.g. practical demonstration) F * Ability to select, summarise and synthesis written information from multiple sources. T/F/A * Ability to apply theory into practice. T/F/A * Ability to select and use appropriate ideas to produce a coherent response to a pre-set question. T/F/A * Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines. A * Ability to work independently, without close supervision of guidance. A Content: The unit will include: * National Curriculum provision in Physical Education * The roles a teacher fulfils including: subject knowledge base, pastoral role, managerial and organisation qualities, involvement in the community, provision of external based examinations * Child Protection and safe practice * The mechanisms for planning and teaching practical lessons * Teaching and learning styles * The principles of an inclusive curriculum * The place and value of physical education in the curriculum. |
