Description: | Aims: To develop awareness of current initiatives and issues in youth sport and evaluate the impact on the performance pathway. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit the students will be able to: * Consider current government initiatives, for example PESSCL, High Quality PE and School Sport and Raising the Bar; * Critically evaluate the effectiveness and impact of current initiatives relating to PE, sport and performance; * Distinguish between traditional and developing roles of the PE teacher and coach; * Explain the principles involved in the evaluation of physical education/sport initiatives; * Critically analyse the effectiveness and impact of a selection of current initiatives on the performance pathway. Skills: * Comprehensive and scholarly written communication (e.g. assignment) F/A * Concise, time-bound and effective written communication (e.g. briefings / exams) A * Effective oral communication. F * Ability to select, summarise and synthesis written information from multiple sources. T/F/A * Ability to apply theory into practice.
