| Description:
| Aims: (1)To look critically at the place and role of the EU for business and governments. (2)To introduce students to theories of European integration. (3) To review the most significant areas of EU policy for international management.(4)To enable students to understand and engage with EU decision-making. Learning Outcomes: Students on completion of this unit will have (1) knowledge of the EU decision-making environment and (2) knowledge of the main EU policies and the principles underpinning them, as well as (3) the ability to understand the dynamics of the European integration process as this affects the business environment, both in an institutional and in a policy and practical context. Skills: Analysis of the contemporary socio-economic and political environment (T,F and A); critical thinking (T,F and A); research skills (F and A). Content: Institutional, legal and policy development of the European Union and how this relates to the integration process. The unit will also cover the treaty base and public attitudes towards the EU, as well as the debate between theorists of European integration. The principal economic policies of the EU (trade, competition, EMU and the single market). Enlargement and EU - Russia relations. The EU, climate change and environmental policies. Lobbying the EU. |
