Description: | Aims: To provide an introduction to pharmacy communication skills. To introduce the MPharm student to medicines legislation. Learning Outcomes: After taking this unit the student should be able to: 1) perform pharmaceutical calculations; 2) extract information from core pharmacy reference sources; 3) scrutinise NHS and private prescription forms for basic legal errors under the Medicines Act 1968 4) use PowerPoint (or similar) to communicate key scientific and clinical case study information. Skills: * Planning & organisation (Taught/Facilitated) * Handling information (Taught/Facilitated/Assessed) * Written communication (Taught/Facilitated/Assessed) * Oral communication (Taught/Facilitated/Assessed) * Improving learning & performance (Taught/Facilitated). Content: Reference sources and information gathering. Pharmaceutical calculations. History of the pharmacy profession. Problem Based Learning. (PBL) Basic communication skills, including, responding to symptoms methods. Introduction to medicines legislation and the Medicines Act 1968. Working with patients. Introduction to medicinal devices. |
