Description: | Aims & Learning Objectives: To extend the students' laboratory based practical skills in the areas of sport and exercise biomechanics, physiology and psychology. On completion of this unit, students should be able to: * Describe the principles of quality control and quality assessment from a laboratory perspective. * Conduct appropriate biomechanical testing using prescribed methodologies and techniques. * Undertake a range of physiological tests on human subjects. * Explain effective use of psychological assessment in sport and exercise populations. * Describe the principles of ethical treatment of human subjects in a laboratory environment. Content: Biomechanics: Motion analysis; force plate analysis. Physiology: Gas analysis; blood sampling and handling; blood lactate; body composition; blood pressure. Psychology: Psychological assessment (quantitative and qualitative approaches). |
