Description: | Aims: To introduce the basic concepts of public engagement (PE) with science, technology, engineering and maths and the contexts in which it takes place. To introduce students to a wide range of approaches to PE and audiences for PE. To increase the skills and confidence of students embarking upon PE activities. To provide opportunities for practical PE work. Learning Outcomes: After studying this unit, students should be able to: * Show awareness of the different agendas driving PE in the UK higher education sector. * Demonstrate the ability to plan and deliver a PE event including rationale, design and evaluation. Skills: Critical thinking (T, A) Problem Solving (F, A) Evaluation, formative and summative (T, F, A) Communication Skills (T, F, A). Content: Political contexts, formal and informal learning, using audience research, formats for engagement, evaluation, practical skills development, promotion and marketing, planning for a PE activity. |
