Description: | Aims: This unit aims to: * Develop the creative practitioner's understanding of music theory and aesthetics in relation to its use in multimedia and moving image; * Enable creative practitioners to design music score and compose or arrange (original or sampled) music for use in multimedia and moving image projects. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit the student should be able to: * analyse the use of music in multimedia and moving image productions using basic musicological terminology; * explain the requirements of a music score for a moving image or multimedia production; * compose a music track (using sample libraries or traditional composition methods); * capture music in suitable formats by suitable methods and edit, arrange & mix own recorded and pre-recorded music. Skills: Analytical: analysis of the use of music in multimedia and moving image productions, explaining requirements of music score (T, A) Practical: devise music score (T, A) Communication: liaise with clients on simulated or live briefs (A) Content: Analysis of the use of music in productions. Application of techniques to practical exercises and short films or multimedia productions to simulated or live briefs. Conduct discussions about music requirements using both musicological (to composers/arrangers/etc.) and non-musicological (to directors/producers/etc.) terminology. |
