Description: | Aims: This unit considers current practice in relation to what constitutes a quality provision. It identifies and discusses the different agencies that determine 'quality' within early years and school settings. It examines the national curriculum, EYFS and Welfare Standards, making links to the five outcomes of Every Child Matters. It identifies and discusses underpinning legislation and the legal requirements, regulations and guidance relating to Early Years and school provision. Learning Outcomes: * Develop, implement and evaluate specific plans and activities to meet individual needs of children, demonstrating inclusive practice; * Consider how theories have shaped approaches to practice; * Demonstrate application of play, learning and development theories to promote quality provision; * Explore and discuss how group work can enhance learning. Content: * This unit will consider best practice regarding developing, implementing and evaluating specific plans and activities, including play, to meet the individual needs of children. * It will outline and discuss underpinning legislation and the legal requirements regulations/guidance and frameworks that support curriculum and early years provision. * It will identify and discuss best practice in relation to the planning cycle. * Enabling environments - for example the outdoor environment * Philosophies of early years provision such as Reggio Emilia, Steiner, Montessori, High scope, Froebel, McMillan, Bruce, Sylva, Nutbrown etc. * Learning theories which compliment specific areas of the planning cycle. * Outline the structure and functions of those agencies with specific responsibility for curriculum needs. |
